I always say how I love Conference Weekend. My mom established a love for it in me ever since I was a child. Some of my fondest memories with my family were shared on Conference Weekend. Especially on Conference Sunday. My dad would always make omelets, mom would always have an activity for us to do so we would be willing to sit in the room and watch all of conference together as a family. My activities usually involved cross-stitch, latch hook or scrapbooking. She would always get my brothers Lego's to put together. But it all brought us together as a family to listen to the wonderful messages being taught by the leaders of our church. Though I don't remember the talks that were given at that time, I always remember the spirit that I felt and I will always cherish those memories with my family. It's fun seeing my kids get excited for conference. They look forward to it every 6 months, I always have different activities for them to do and they love it. This time around we did it a little different. In primary the Sunday before the Primary President gave the sharing time and gave each child a little baggy of stuff to do during conference. She talked about King Benjamin from the Book of Mormon and how all gathered there tents with their doors open to him to hear his message and she challenged the children to do the same. My kids were so excited to make a tent to watch conference in.
Conference Sunday came along and the kids reminded me about the story of King Benjamin and how they wanted to build a tent just like the people in the story. So I made a tent for them with the tent opening toward the TV so they could watch conference. They had their baggy of games like Bingo that they could participate in listening to the messages. They actually really listened and it was so fun watching them. Plus, it made it so I could enjoy conference also. I'm so glad we're building these memories for them and helping them appreciate the importance of hearing the Lord's leaders speak his message. I definitely think we'll add the tent thing to our traditions for Conference Sunday from now on.
